Photo of Dr. Silberman a Waldorf, MD DentistWe are happy to announce the beginning of our monthly newsletters! This is an exciting time for us as we begin to get in touch with all of our patients near and far. We will make each monthly newsletter informative and will offer discounts on select dental services throughout the year.

High Blood Pressure Awareness Month
High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
Some high blood pressure drugs can cause dry mouth or alter your sense of taste. Calcium channel blockers, in particular, can cause the gum tissue to swell and overgrow, resulting in chewing difficulties. If you do experience gum overgrowth, we will give you detailed oral hygiene instructions and may ask you to make more frequent dental visits for cleanings.

Osteoporosis And Dentistry
What could the connection be with these two? Medications that are commonly given to treat osteoporosis can cause problems with the jaw bones. It’s imperative that you tell us if you are taking or have ever taken any of these drugs (bisphosphonates) such as Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, Reclast, etc. They can stay in your system for 10 years as they are absorbed into the bone. They are very helpful in the treatment of osteoporosis and there is no question that their benefits far outweigh their side effects. As your dental healthcare professionals, it is important that we know this information prior to doing any invasive procedure such as a tooth extraction. There can be complications to healing which we can go over if this pertains to you.

Summer Sports
Let’s Get Outside!
Warm weather, warm water, the sunshine and good company always get us outdoors. Kayaking, cycling, running, hiking, baseball, etc. are all sports that require different levels of mouthwear protection. We offer different styles for all comfort levels. Mouth protection is extremely important. Ask us about it at your next visit or go to www.SilbermanDental.com and click Family Dentistry (Sports Dentistry) to learn about Under Amour Performance Mouthwear.

The greatest compliment we can receive is your personal referral.

Most of our new patients hear about us from family members or friends.
