How do you know if it is the flu or a cold?

Because of the flu epidemic and because we are interested in your overall health, Dr. Silberman wants to share information about battling the flu. You may have the flu if you have some or all of these symptoms:

FEVER, COUGH, SORE THROAT, RUNNY OR STUFFY NOSE, BODY ACHES, HEADACHE, CHILLS, FATIGUE, SOMETIMES DIARRHEA AND VOMITING.

How do you know if you have the flu or a cold? One clue about the flu is that you feel flu symptoms sooner that you would cold symptoms AND they come on with greater intensity. If you think you have the flu, your physician may prescribe antiviral medication. Antiviral drugs work best when taken within 48 hours of onset of symptoms.

Antibiotics DO NOT work against the flu. Antibiotics are medications that fight infections caused by bacteria. The flu is caused by a virus. Also note that it is not too late to take the flu vaccine which may help.
